Board of Directors Meeting

May 22, 2007

Attendees:

Kay Bouyack, Hilda Drake, Tess Midkiff, Barb Nourse, Paige Williams, Jim Wayne, Debra Knutson

The May 2007 meeting of the Board of Directors of the Literacy Council of Scioto County was held in the Scioto Foundation.  The meeting was brought to order at 4:00 by President Hilda Drake. 

The April minutes were approved.

Treasurer Jim Wayne reported that a balance of $28, 601.67 remained in the treasury after we placed four ads for Coordinator ($107.10 to Portsmouth Times, $108 to Community Common, $381.75 to Huntington Herald Dispatch, $90.10 for second ad in Portsmouth Times) and after Wayne submitted $25 to the Ohio Secretary of State for a required filing.

Some questions arose about the feasibility of hiring the Coordinator as a contract employee.  Jim Wayne will ask Bill Tackett if our plan to make this a contract position is legal.

The majority of the meeting time was devoted to a discussion of the applicants.  Paige Williams, Hilda Drake, and Kay Bouyack had picked their top six candidates during the previous week, so they presented those applications to the Board.  The Board read and discussed the applications, then picked four applicants for interviews.  The search committee will hold interviews next week and hopes to make a recommendation to the Board at the June meeting. 

The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.  The June meeting is scheduled for 4:00 on June 26.
